Description of Tested Tactic
The trial had a two-way factorial design with three cover crop termination dates (early, i.e. before hairy vetch flowering; intermediate, i.e. at the beginning of vetch flowering; late, i.e. at 70% of hairy vetch flowering) and three glyphosate rates (nil, half and full rate, where the latter was 1440 g a.i. ha−1, applied as 200 L ha−1 water solution of Roundup 360 Power, Monsanto Agricoltura Italia).
Test of hairy vetch cover crop (before cash crop) terminated through different ways (roller crimper + none/half/full herbicide dosis and 3 terminations dates) and kept as dead mulch in no-till system.
Description of Reference System
The objective of this study was to investigate whether an innovative no-till system based on roller-crimped hairy vetch cover crop followed by sunflower directly sown in the legume dead mulch could be agronomically and economically competitive with the reference system, managed in the same way, but glyphosate was also sprayed to increase cover crop termination and weed control.
No-till system, with herbicide use for cover crop destruction before cash crop sowing.
