Faba bean as green manure for field weed control in maize

In this study, faba bean flowering plants were tested as green manure for weed control in glasshouse experiments and field trials with two principal objectives: (i) to evaluate the duration of the early effects of faba bean plant material incorporated into the soil, and its short-term effects on the germination and growth of maize and some accompanying weeds under glasshouse conditions, and (ii) to test the effectiveness of faba bean as a green manure for weed control in weed-infested fields, at two different locations and during two growing seasons.
